bradmessner: Unique Uses of Technology Out There...

Well, when I joined this community, I was really hoping for discussions about issues as well as how we can (collectively) overcome some of the big problems. I think we have had a great start on some of this, but I'd really like to take things up a notch and see if we really can help each other grow.

To start off, I thought we might try a topic that is near and dear to my heart--technology (mainly QC and scripts). I have been managing these for almot 9 years now so I have quite a bit I can share.

Is anybody having problems with any technologies in their office?
What technologies are people using?
Anything unique that has really helped your business grow?


For us, one truly unique thing we have done is setup our QC Software (we use Cornerstone) to e-mail an agent 1 week before final payment is due on a cruise/tour and then send a final notice to the agent the day final payment is due. Remember payments used to be a huge challenge for us, but this small change has completely turned things around---a weakness has migrated into a strength of ours.

Similarly, we are a member of the Carlson Wagonlit family and, as such, receive coupons for hotel upgrades and such for our clients. We use technology to automatically e-mail a copy of these coupons to our clients who are eligible. We are tracking and coupon usage has more than quadrupled since we started this.

I am not a scripter so I realy don't know much about the fine details of it. For the most part I'm sure I mostly bitch about scripts (when they don't work properly) even though they make my travel agent life run a lot more smoothly.

We use Aqua for QC, which I *think* is a Sabre product. All of the script I use are written internally at CWT (my employer).

When I think of script, in all honesty, it's "ENTER< ENTER< ENTER< ENTER TAB ENTER" for me. And I use them on every single reservation. Many of them. (Numbers 6,9,10,13,14,17 and then 22 for Int'l files).

But I don't write'em and don't and they don't send out coupons to our travellers. They just make sure everything is all good on the PNR. The only thing, I really care about is script compliance, so I HAVE to make sure certain scripts are there otherwise it could affect my incentive (what corp. agents have instead of commissions).
