ergoterraluna: A forum for agents? awesome!

Hi. I suppose I can call myself a "half" travel agent. I work in a local call center for Orbitz, I used to work general reservations, working mostly air and hotel path bookings, and working in our "supplier link" GDS/CRS systems and working with hotels and airlines. Now, I work "Obritz Care Team" which is a set team of people that monitor flight in the next 24 hours and if there is a cancellation, we rebook the pax and have the airlines reissue tickets when they check in for the flight.

I've worked there for a year now coming up on the 23rd, and love what I do. I have thought about working as an agent for a different agency, or also working for an airline - but I know I would need more training. I understand the bare bones when it comes to the nitty gritty about fares and how things actually work. I have never actually issued a ticket. (like I said, I consider myself a half travel agent)

My main reason for joining this group is, 1. to appreciate the travel industry, and 2. to see where I can meet friends/contacts/resources to lean on later in life should i continue to work in the travel industry (and I do!)

Please let me know your feed back :)

if you don't mind my asking, how did you get your gig with Orbitz?
